Well I don't know about you but that test was quite tough. It was our first test with Mr K back. For me, the hardest part of that test was with the local linearizatioin question just because we didn't do that much work on it. I don't know about you but I noticed that there was no related rates question. I was bracing myself for a related rates question, at least a shadow and lamppost one but there wasn't one.
Well I want to know how everybody else felt about the test? What questions did you think were hard? Easy? Comfortable with? Scared of? I guess you can make a post to the blog or just post a comment. I just want to know how you felt about the test so we can all work together to clear up our muddy points.
It is your choice if you want to comment or not. But it will benefit you in many ways instead of sitting and writing the next test or exam sweating....

BOB
BOB again!! I totally forget about it*_*
well this morning I went through chapter 4 again, i still didn't get some part.
I don't know how to use Newton's method graphically, i didn't ge .
I kinda get the related rates of change.
i think i remembered all the rules.
Well hope this unit test won't be too hard so I could get higher marks!
^_^Good luck!

Bobbing about, erm, something
I totally forgot what unit we're on.
So yeah, about that whole math thing.
I get most of the recent stuff we're talking about, but the shaky stuff is mostly is that finding the rate/derivative stuff. I'm still hung up on those, like where you have to find dx/dy given DQ/A&W (silly example that we're given seemingly random other rates like du/dn that somehow relate to the rate/value we're looking for). In fact, the whole derivative/integral/differentiable thing is kind of lost on me still. The last few classes however have been a little clearer and I feel I have a good grasp of the stuff we did today like using the derivative function to try and find critical numbers.
I hope that I'll do well on this test but expect that at best I'll squeak by 50%. More than likely I'll fail it though (I hope not :\).
I hope that with Mr.K back we can clear up whatever people don't understand (and I hope do this before we move on so that we don't encounter problems in the future) because his explainations are much clearer than Dr. Eviatar's.
Good luck tomorrow with the test everyone and get a good nights sleep!
BOB... Wait, we're Doing These Again?
Okay so we're doing these agian nao right? Sounds good ;p
SO. Chapter 4.
Overall I feel like this was a really high and low unit for me. It wasn't the hardest unit ever, but it definitely wasn't easy. For me, the hardest part is definitely related rates problems. I hardly understand them :S Super confusing.
The algebra stuff in general though, is loads easier for me then graphing stuff (With me being more about the algebra and all.)
I dont anticipate I shall do extremely well on this test, although I'm hoping for a decent result. To be honest I really just need to spend a lot more time with this stuff (specifically related rates D:). Like Jamie said in her bob, it feels like I understand the concepts, but have trouble applying them in most cases.
Hopefully a fresh start in chapter 6 will be what I need, since it feels like everything since Mr.K got back has mostly been "damage control" so to speak.
Well I think thats about everything on my end. I'm out to go fill out more applications for various university things -__-;

BOBby Flay: Differentiation Rules
Well....this unit was kinda half and half for understanding for me. The first half of the unit was simple enough for me to understand since it was mostly just learning the rules of differentiation and then applying them some functions. Although, admittedly, the chain rule took me a while to properly use and I remember looking at the quotient rule and thinking "Whoa.." but that got better after Mr. K taught us the song (Which I probably didn't sing enough since I forgot the LO-LO part during the pre-test XD).
Anywho, the only thing I can say that is really difficult for me are the rates of change problems. The easiest being the triangles, although still hard to think through. Its especially discouraging to think of the fact that we are only given 15 minutes to do these types of questions during the exam, while for me, it takes usually about an hour to thoroughly think things through and actually get the right answer. I was also confused about the rates of change question on the pre-test since I didn't know what to do with the graph. It was just like "Hey, look a graph...hmm..its about 5pi at 4 seconds. Now what?". Maybe I'm making these out to be harder than they are, but I guess I'll just have to do a crabapple load of these types of questions till I can finally get it within 15 minutes >__>.
Okay, I should stop now before I write an essay again. Now back to reviewing..and good luck everyone! d=(^__^)z

BOB for chapter 4
I'm feeling really comfortable with this unit. However, the pretest says otherwise. I just have a lot of trouble processing a question when I see it shown in a different way than what I'm accustomed to. Like on the pretest, when it asked for the derivative except was shown as a limit.
One of my muddy points would have to be the rate of change questions like everyone else. I know what you have to do to start off solving it by finding relationships. After that I just get stuck but I'll be working on these types of questions for the rest of the night.

A DEEPER DIGGING INTO FUNCTIONS & DERIVATIVES
Today in calculus, we started digging into the next chapter which was full of familiar concepts. Since the SmartBoard is dearly missed and we can't exactly pull a Steve McQueen on the school division and get the lightbulb ourselves, I decided to do our notes on the Notebook software, which will be published later tonight.. [well I guess not, since slideshare didn't accept my filetype.]
The slides are a bit... messed up. I probably should've clicked that landscape box or something. You can go to slideshare and fullscreen them I guess...Good luck on the test everyone!! Homework was Ex. 5.1 all odd and also include 30, 38 & 46
As for the next scribe, it will be...
